Elite Access Control Installation: The Fremont Owner’s Guide

Elite access control installation in Fremont typically runs between $1,400 and $3,200 depending on whether you’re replacing a failed keypad, adding a new telephone entry system, or upgrading to a wireless receiver with smartphone capability. Most Elite part replacements we handle in Fremont are diagnosed and completed same-day because we stock the common control boards, keypads, and receiver modules on our service trucks. We see these failures most often when an older Elite system starts dropping signals in the damp Fremont winters or when a keypad membrane cracks after years of UV exposure against a south-facing gate post in neighborhoods like Ardenwood.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

Elite has produced several distinct product lines over the years, and the part you need depends on which generation is mounted to your gate. The CSW series (CSW200, CSW24V) and the SL series (SL3000, SL3000UL) use different control boards with incompatible pin configurations. The older Elite Miracle-One and Miracle-Two telephone entry systems share some components with the current ETI (Elite Telephone Entry) line, but the backplates changed in 2018. Check the label inside the keypad housing or on the control board itself - you’re looking for a four-digit part number starting with EL- or a date code stamped on the board.

We carry both OEM Elite parts and quality aftermarket equivalents from EMX and Linear that interface cleanly with existing Elite wiring. For control boards, we prefer OEM because the firmware timing on Elite’s soft-start/stop ramping is proprietary. For keypads and receiver modules, aftermarket units often outlast the originals at half the price. We’ll show you both options and the exact part number we’re quoting before any work starts.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
  • Intermittent response to remote or keypad entry. The gate opens fine at 8 a.m. but ignores the code by 6 p.m. This usually traces to a failing Elite receiver module (the RX-1 or RX-2 board) whose crystal oscillator drifts with temperature swings. In Fremont, we see this most in gates with no shade cover where afternoon sun heats the housing past 140°F.
  • Keypad buttons require multiple presses or feel mushy. The membrane switch beneath the buttons degrades from moisture intrusion and UV exposure. On Elite ETI systems mounted without a weather hood, we’ve found membranes failing in under four years - half the expected lifespan in a covered installation.
  • Gate opens but won’t close, or reverses immediately. The control board’s loop detector input is reading phantom vehicle presence. This can be a failing Elite loop detector board or, more commonly, a ground-shift issue where the shield wire has corroded at the terminal block.
  • Telephone entry system dials out but never connects, or connects to a disconnected number. The ETI’s internal modem or cellular communicator has lost carrier registration. On 3G Elite communicators, this is now a forced-obsolescence issue - the cellular network sunset killed them, and only a 4G/LTE upgrade module restores function.
  • System powers on but shows no display or garbled characters. The control board’s power regulation section has failed, often from a nearby lightning strike or voltage spike. Fremont’s proximity to the bay means fog-borne salt can accelerate corrosion on the board’s voltage regulator pins even without direct water intrusion.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Range in Fremont
Elite keypad replacement (membrane or full housing) $340 - $580
Elite receiver module swap (RX-1/RX-2) $420 - $720
Elite control board replacement $680 - $1,100
Telephone entry system (ETI) full replacement $1,800 - $3,200
Cellular communicator upgrade (3G to 4G/LTE) $560 - $890

The range depends on three factors: whether we’re matching to an existing Elite system or cross-wiring a compatible aftermarket unit, how much of the existing conduit and low-voltage wiring is reusable, and whether the gate’s current draw requires us to resize the transformer. Every quote is written and handed over before we pick up a tool - that’s Haven Standard Clause 1. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers all completed work. Under Clause 4, you get a photographed record of every connection, every setting, and every part number installed.

There’s a safe middle ground here. You can check whether the Elite system’s power LED is lit, whether the breaker feeding the gate is tripped, and whether the keypad cable’s terminal screws have backed out from vibration. What you should not do is open the control board housing or attempt to test live 24V AC wiring without proper isolation - gate control boards share grounds with household electrical systems, and a fault path can energize the gate frame.

The bigger risk is misdiagnosing the failed part. We’ve found Elite systems in Fremont where a homeowner replaced two keypads before realizing the receiver module was the actual failure point. At that point they’ve paid for parts they didn’t need and still have a non-working gate. We carry diagnostic tools that read Elite board fault codes directly, and we’ll name what we found, name what it costs, name what we left behind. Call (510) 826-3980 and we’ll quote the repair in writing before we dispatch.
